Why do so many want to believe in aliens?
Science has no problem with the concept of alien intelligent life. Quite the opposite in fact. Most scientists would accept that it is highly probable that we are not alone in the universe. The reason for thinking this is straightforward. Science believes that life arose on earth almost four billion years ago from lifeless chemicals and understands how it evolved from that original simple single form into the myriad forms of life, including human life, that presently populate the earth. There is no reason in principle therefore to think that equivalent events have not happened on earth-like planets elsewhere in the universe.
For the last 70 odd years, human civilisation has been broadcasting evidence of its existence to the universe at large in the form of radiowaves. These waves, emanating from our radio/television newscasts and entertainment programmes, shoot off into outer space at the speed of light. We have also deliberately sent radio messages into space, giving basic information about life on earth, hoping to contact alien civilisations. And, since we are doing this, we expect that alien civilisations elsewhere in the universe who are at least as technologically capable as ourselves, will be doing likewise. A widely known scientific enterprise has been established, called the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (Seti), that actively scans the skies for incoming radio messages from alien civilisations. No messages have been detected to date.
In 1977, Voyager 1 and 2 space probes were launched. They carry special golden records that bear recordings of life on Earth – pictures of people, scenery, plants, the song of a whale and greetings from Earth in 55 languages. They also locate Earth in our solar system, and our solar system in the galaxy. The records bear instructions for how they should be played.
The physicist Dr Frank Drake has estimated the likely number of alien civilisations in our own Milky Way galaxy that may be attempting to contact other civilisations and he has expressed his calculations in an equation called the Drake Equation. This takes into account the rate of formation of stars like our sun, the proportion that have orbiting earth-like planets, the proportion of these on which life arose, and so on. Drake estimates that our Milky Way contains 10,000 civilisations interested in making communications with others.
Scientists believe that by far the most likely way an alien civilisation on another planet might learn of our existence would be by detecting and deciphering our radio signals. Having detected our signals they might then be moved either to signal back to us or to physically come to visit us, or both. We have detected no intelligent radio signals yet and it also seems extremely unlikely that physical visitations could have occurred. Intelligent radio signals have emanated from earth only for the past 70 years. Even if aliens made a beeline for earth, travelling at the speed of light, immediately on receipt of our signals, only aliens from the few nearest star systems to earth could be involved and the probability that these star systems harbour intelligent life is remote.
The best known “alien visitation” incident occurred in the desert near Roswell, New Mexico in 1947, where members of the public witnessed something crashing to earth. Witnesses also saw “alien bodies” being removed from the wreckage. The US airforce was quickly on the scene and took away the debris. An army press officer first described the object as a flying saucer, but this was quickly denied and it was claimed that the object was an army weather balloon.
This confusion was seized on by unidentified flying object (UFO) supporters who claimed that the whole thing was a huge cover-up. The US airforce conducted a comprehensive investigation of the incidence in 1994 and confirmed that the object that crashed was a weather balloon and the “alien bodies” were test dummies on board the balloon.
UFO enthusiasts continue to believe that an alien craft crashed at Roswell in 1947 and that the US government covered the whole thing up. The Roswell incident inflamed interest in UFOs around the world and this interest persists. Belief in alien visits to earth is now widespread. A US National Science Foundation poll in 2001 found that 30 per cent of people believe that some of the many UFOs “sighted” every year come from alien civilisations. Sixty one per cent of British teenagers believe that aliens visit earth.
Why are people so willing to believe that aliens are visiting earth? It’s not that the evidence amounts to much. Despite the hundreds of thousands of UFOs that have been sighted over the years I don’t think there is even one clear photograph of a craft that cannot be clearly identified as an earthly creation. The weight of evidence that exists doesn’t seem to weigh more than the evidence for the existence of Big Foot, Nessie or The Abominable Snowman.
The reason so many are willing to believe in current visitations by aliens is probably psychological. We are social animals and fear solitude. Deep down we fear the idea that we may be alone in the universe and we would wish it otherwise. We don’t want to be alone.
Ghost Hunting – Televised Events
What I think we need to understand is that televised ghost hunts are edited to the point where they give the impression that there is continuous activity. This is very understandable when you consider that they only have an hour to demonstrate 2 days worth of ghost hunting time. This is obviously edited and therefore the paranormal activity seems relentless. As a ghost hunter myself I can sometimes feel very envious of how televised events present themselves to the eager observers. I wish that on an untelevised event we could get that much activity. However, this is not the case. On many ghost hunt events it could be a long arduous night with very much happening at all and when it does there is no repetition or replay of the moment. We have to be alert and eagle eyed throughout the event. The best thing about having a lot of people there is that there are more people to hear and see activity. The downside is obviously that there are also a lot of people who can make noise which can be misinterpreted.
All ghost hunts are fascinating. Every location is unique as is every ghost hunt event. The people attending the event all bring something different in terms of energy and belief about what they are doing. I wonder how interesting it would be for a public ghost hunt to be televised and how controls could be enforced in order to make it entertaining. It would of course be quite an active event as the timeframe would be filled with the movement of the public and re-settling into various locations. However, I could see how this could work. It would be a bit like the public who watch the televised versions of a ghost hunt physically going into the Television to be part of the televised event. No longer being an observer but a participator.

Six Reasons Why There are Cheap Homes
Why are there cheap homes for sale? You can imagine some of the reasons, but taking a good look at what they mean can help you save thousands buying your next home – or help you avoid a disaster. Consider the following common reasons that houses sell for less than others.
A Cheap Home May Have Hidden Problems
If you can’t find other reasons why the price is low, there may be hidden problems. There could include foundation cracks hidden behind paneled walls, or the fact that a new garbage dump is about to be built across the road. If you can identify the problems, and estimate the cost to resolve them, the house may still be a good deal. However, if the seller was hiding these issues, there may be more surprises. Put an inspection contingency in any offer for these types of homes, and get those inspections done.
Some Homes Just Need Work
You may need to pass on by fixer uppers, if you don’t want the work. However, these houses can be a way to build equity fast. The uglier they look, the more they scare away other buyers, so there is often a real opportunity to get a bargain. Unfortunately, a seller may think that if his house needs $10,000 in repairs it is worth just that much less than others. That’s no deal. If you’re going to spend $10,000 in repairs, it better be worth $20,000 more when you are done.
Bad Neighborhoods
That you can find cheap homes in bad neighborhoods is no surprise, but are they a good buy? Generally no, if the neighborhood is declining. In a real estate forum recently, I saw a post from an investor who had to sell his Detroit rental house for a loss after twenty years of owning it (who says real estate always goes up in value).
On the other hand, when there are clear signs that the neighborhood is improving, buying a cheap home there could be a great investment. Usually, once the improvement is noticeable, things start happening fast. You may see a big jump in the home’s value in a few short years.
Some Sellers Need To Sell Fast
Everyone has deadlines. If a seller needs to move soon, or to sell quickly for any other reasons, and you learn this information, why not make a low offer? You’re not taking advantage of someone in this situation, since you might not buy the home otherwise, and the seller can always say no to your offer. Perhaps he’ll be happy to sell for a few thousand less to get it sold now, so give him the opportunity.
Unique Sometimes Equals Cheap
I once lived near a house shaped like a flying saucer. Some homes have insanely steep driveways, while others are built halfway underground. When their unique features are desired, these homes can sell for a premium. Otherwise they go cheap.
Remember that an unusual house may be hard to sell when you move someday. However, if it fits your needs and you’ll be living there for a long time, why not consider it? You might pay $300 less per month on the smaller loan needed to buy a “unique” home. Live there for fifteen years and you’ll spend $54,000 less on payments – sufficient compensation for a difficult sale, perhaps.
Sometimes Cheap Homes Are Just Cheap
Want to buy a house worth $230,000 that is priced at $190,000? It happens – rarely, but why not keep your eyes open. And don’t bother feeling guilty. You don’t have an obligation to educate a seller or pay more than his asking price. In any case, it’s possible he has good reasons for pricing it that way. Maybe he bought it for half that and needs a quick sale.

Are aliens living on Earth with us in secret government underground bases?
According to some internet sources i’ve read there are aliens living in top secret underground bases built by the government along side the humans that run them. Is there any truth to any of this? If so how far does it go?
