The Very First Video Game Ever Released (and It’s not Pong)

When asked about the very first video game ever released most experts will tell you that it was Pong, the famous table tennis inspired video game released in 1972 by Atari Inc. But Pong wasn’t the first one, as a company called Nutting Associates had already released their Computer Space game in 1971.

Computer Space was created by Nolan Bushnell and Ted Dabne, who later founded Atari. The gaming idea was based on Spacewar! (see below), but the really revolutionary concept was to create a machine specifically for a game (instead of programming a game for an existing hardware). The classic arcade game had been invented.

The game was quite simple, you had to control a space ship and would fire missiles at flying saucers. Computer Space’s technology was very primitive – no microprocessor and no modern memory architecture, the entire minimalistic computer was made of only 74 logic circuits using diode arrays as memory. But it came in an outstanding futuristic cabinet, which was available in various colors.

While the Computer Space game was quite successful on college campuses, it didn’t perform well in bars. It was probably too complicated back then, as people had never seen such a kind of game before. Pong, which was a huge success only shortly after, was much more easy to play and to understand.

While Computer Space was the first computer game available for the public, the were games even before it. Bill Pitts and Hugh Tuck had programmed Galaxy Game two months before Computer Space was released (in September 1971), but it was only available at Stanford University. Galaxy Game, again, was based on Spacewar!, a game created on a PDP-1 back in 1961 by Steve “Slug” Russell, Martin “Shag” Graetz and Wayne Wiitanen.

Classic Game Room HD – DEAD SPACE review Part 1 Xbox 360

Part 1 of 2 in HIGH DEFINITION. Classic Game Room reviews DEAD SPACE for the Xbox 360 video game console. This Dead Space review shows gameplay and footage from this amazing game in HD High Definition game play video. Wow! It’s like they made this game for Classic Game Room! It may not have huge Atari sized pixels or ninjas, but what it does have is awesome science fiction ambience, sound design and story telling! You play as Isaac and crawl through a space ship infested with horrible aliens or mutated people, all of whom are trying to decapitate you and rip your limbs from your torso. Gameplay is solid, fast and intense. The video game reminds CGR of Alien, Event Horizon and the video games Bioshock, Resistance and Fallout 3. All good things. Dead Space is somewhat of a horror style 3rd person shooter (should have a FPS first person shooter option) set in space and featuring an awesome Sci-fi movie inspired plot. Hours of boring cutscenes are abandoned in favor of in-game storytelling through some really nice stylized screens and audio logs. There are lots of weapons including cutters and flamethrowers, each gun has 2 different modes of fire. Dead Space is sure to please those looking for a top-notch A-list shooter on the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 PS3 or PC. We use the 360 version of the game for this review but we’d imaging, from what we’ve seen, that the PS3 Dead Space gameplay and footage is very similar if not identical. The game is awesome.

Classic Game Room HD CHARGE ‘N BLAST for Sega Dreamcast review

Classic Game Room HD reviews CHARGE ‘N BLAST for Sega Dreamcast from 2000! Aliens, meteors and insects oh my! Its your job to charge and blast them with immobile suites that move left and right. This CGR review of Charge N Blast for Sega Dreamcast has gameplay from this science fiction arcade shooter which has some very unique gameplay and bizarre enemies. Waste lizard men, Godzilla-knockoff monster and hordes of meteor bugs with three characters (theres unlockable characters when you beat each difficulty level). Play one or two players on screen at the same time. The challenging part of Charge N Blast is mastering a very odd control scheme where you move left and right, charge and blast. It sounds simple but gets increasingly more difficulty as the game progresses. Charge N Blast has some serious cheesy, campy sci-fi charm and is so bad at times its good. Dialog is awful, animations are terrible but the lizard people are awesome! Each character in the game has a little description of their personality in the instruction manual which is ever so helpful when charging and blasting aliens monsters for reasons unknown. This game was released for the Sega Dreamcast video game console in 2000 and is easy to find and collect today. The biggest flaw in the game is a lack of aim inversion when shooting.

The Game of Love & 51%

We, as spirit, create for our enjoyment illusions such as man/woman, and are enjoying watching this giant illusionary show. This is very difficult for the human brain to comprehend. However, the brain has been created as a machine like instrument capable of receiving from the flesh; the physical understanding, which is limited in nature. It will kick, squabble, jerk, spit and in general misbehave, which is the nature which we as spirit have given to it to add enjoyment to our game. When it is manipulated by spirit, with the energies of love, it is then capable of joining with the soul (the heart centre) and being managed. The term ‘managed’ is used, because it does not ever lose its rebelliousness; it will always seek to control the vessel.

However, love can and does control it, to a degree, whereby it acquiesces; it is quieted, so to speak. It allows a more powerful energy to guide it, namely; the soul or consciousness.

The old adventure was to be burdened by the limited nature of the brain. Our new adventure is to be free of this limitation.

Over the coming months more and more love will be engendered into the brains of those who choose this path and they will experience the expansiveness of their spirit/soul/consciousness, and their brain will slowly and surely acquiesce to the promptings of their soul.  Spirit, when asked, will enhance the brain with energy of great magnitude to help assist in the expansion of it. It will not like this demand, know that this is true. However, ask, and spirit will assist.

There is another aspect to the game.

We must all do 51% of the work before spirit will allow the love to do its miraculous work. Yes, spirit asks that each and everyone do 51% of the work upon themself. Then they shall instigate the manipulation which shall bring about an end to the distress.

There are many aspects upon which we are required to work if indeed our wish for perfection is to come true. Each nuance of perfection must be dealt with individually. We each have various areas of concern which currently plague us. One may be that our judgement is poor in a particular area. If we have worked upon this aspect of our character to the degree that 51% of the work has been achieved, then and only then shall spirit manipulate the brain so as to give relief from the pain. This will be done instantly. We will begin to feel the effects, in some cases instantly, in others, within a few days to approximately one week.

This is The Game - Play it well. Spirit invites ‘you’ to play the Game of Love.

Remembering that;

You need to have done 51% of the work before spirit can intervene.   You need to have a sincere desire to progress along the path to perfection, and Be all that you can be at all moments; remembering that the brain will not enjoy your new found freedom and shall strive to take back control.

There is a need for constant vigilance; this is part of the game. Do well; enter the game with diligence and calm.
